Smoke Alarm Installation Brisbane: Upgrading Smoke Alarms to QLD Standards with Expert Brisbane Electrician

As of January 1, 2022, Queensland introduced new legislation governing smoke alarm standards. The key requirements include:

Interconnected Alarms: All smoke alarms must be interconnected, meaning that if one alarm detects smoke, all alarms in the residence will sound simultaneously. This ensures that every part of the home is alerted, maximising the chances of early detection.

Photoelectric Type Alarms: The legislation mandates the use of photoelectric smoke alarms, which are highly effective in detecting smoldering fires – the type that can produce a significant amount of toxic smoke before bursting into flames. This type of alarm is known for its accuracy and reduced likelihood of false alarms.

Placement Guidelines: The legislation provides specific guidelines for the placement of smoke alarms, taking into account the number of levels and bedrooms in a residence. For example, alarms must be installed in every bedroom, in hallways that connect bedrooms to the rest of the dwelling, and on each level of the home.

Powered by Mains Electricity with a Backup Power Source: Smoke alarms must be hardwired if they are hardwired already (with backup battery) or have a 10 year lithium ion battery installed, ensuring continuous operation even in the event of a power outage.

Benefits of Upgrading your smoke alarms:

  • Early Detection Saves Lives
  • Compliance with Legislation
  • Reduced False Alarms
  • Peace of Mind
